You are the only women violin duo in the country trained in Indian and western classical and world music. Tell us more about trans global fusion concerts you have been doing in our country and abroad. How is the response been to such concerts?
It was our father K.Muthuswamy who first suggested that we go for trans global fusion music because we have been well trained in Carnatic, western classical and world music.
While Lalitha had done world music in University of Pittsburgh, I (Nandhini) did it in SOAS, University of London. Both of us did western classical in Trinity College. Our mother M . Subbulakshmi is our carnatic music guru. While performing world music, the stage becomes a global village.
During our fusion concerts we found rasikas abroad were able to relate to Carnatic classical music, and those in our country get an opportunity to listen to world music and enjoy it thoroughly.
We have widened the audience for Carnatic music through such concerts. Even during our recent Europe tour, we had successful collaborations in places like Berlin and Brussels.
Trans global fusion concerts have won global audience for carnatic music and helped in exchange of ideas between artistes and rasikas. We feel such fusion concerts are meaningful and successful.
