Bringing a tragedy to life

Shakespeare's first tragedy play was staged earlier this week by city's Nishumbita Ballet and Theatre Group.

Widely believed to be the inspiration behind the popular Game of Thrones, Titus Andronicus, William Shakespeare’s first tragedy play was staged earlier this week in the city by Nishumbita Ballet and theatre group.

The play that tells the story of the Roman General Titus, who is engaged in a revenge with Tamora, a Queen, saw many IT professionals among others take part in the production.

Take for instance Akshat Ajay Sharma who made his debut in the theatre scene. Akshat has already directed a Telugu film Singham 123, says, “The entire experience was tough and rigorous. We started rehearsing from mid-May. We auditioned a lot of new people and many of the actors in the play were performing for the first time.”

The protagonist of the play —Titus Andronicus, was played by Vinay Nallakadi, a tech associate at a corporate company.

“It was quite a hectic schedule. For this particular role, I rehearsed for 45 days. I would wake up early in the morning and rehearse, then go to work, and come back and rehearse again.”

Lakshmi Kanth, who works for a pharmaceutical company played the role of Marcus Andronicus — Titus’ brother.

He says that the play was challenging, but quite fulfilling. “This was my 10th play, it was a very draining experience nevertheless it was amazing,” he says.
