\'The Crown’ set to return on Nov. 9

HYDERABAD: The wait is finally over. Through a video posted by Imelda Staunton last year, we knew that the fifth season of The Crown was scheduled to release this year. Now, it has got a date. Netflix has announced that the fifth season of the extremely well-made series will be out on November 9. It has even dropped a trailer for the same.

The series, which as it is popular, of late, has seen a renewed interest after the demise of Queen Elizabeth II, whose life and times it chronicles. The titular role has been ably portrayed by Clarie Foy and Olivia Colman in the first four seasons. In the fifth season, it will be essayed by Imelda Staunton. You will remember her as Dolores Umbridge in “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1”. She also won audiences’ hearts as Lady Maud Bagshaw in the first “Downton Abbey” film and its recently released sequel, “Downton Abbey: A New Era”.

The year 1992 had proved to be annus horribilis for the Queen as her children faced problems with their marriage. The same year ended with a horrible fire ravaging Windsor Castle which housed one of the world’s greatest collections of art.

Season 4 saw the stories of Margaret Thatcher and Diana, Princess of Wales. While by the end of the season, Thatcher had stepped down as the Prime Minister, the marriage of Charles and Diana had started unraveling. As widely speculated the soon-to-be-released season will follow the plot of Charles and Diana separating and their romantic escapades.

While Imelda replaces Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II, Jonathan Pryce will play Prince Philip. Dominic West will play Prince Charles taking over from Josh O’connor, and Elizabeth Debicki will be Princess Diana, played by Emma Corrin so far.

The trailer gives us a good idea of what to expect. The marriage of Charles and Diana is over, announces Buckingham Palace. Both of them are getting ready for TV interviews and there’s a lot of commentary from journalists in the background; it’s “All out war,” declares one in the 38-second clip.

Each installment of ‘The Crown’ generally covers a decade in the royal family’s life. According to reports Season 6 too is in the making and is reportedly going to be the last season of this series which has enjoyed the love of audiences and critics so far.
