A telly tale of learning

The shy actress loves her new role as a village lass, but also admits that she gets tongue-tied in front of adoring fans.

With small screen slowly moving beyond the typical atte-sose and family dramas, in another welcoming change, the Kannada audience will soon witness a teleserial which is in sync with reality. In this instance, it is about giving importance to education, especially to girls in rural areas. Zee Kannada’s Kamali revolves around the tale of a village girl who seeks better education. Actress Amulya of the Aramane fame is the face of this educating tale. She speaks with Bengaluru Chronicle and shares her latest avatar on the small screen, amongst other plans and the reason for her shyness whenever she encounters fans in real life.

“The characters I have portrayed for the past three-and-a-half years in the television industry include those in Swati Muttu, Punar Vivaha and the most popular one Hitha in Aramane. They are all completely different roles, and the one I am essaying in Kamali is also very unique. Many fans who have seen my first look in Kamali on TV are wondering about the new avatar. I, myself couldn’t believe the change in me as Kamali. I’m glad that I am a part of such great and meaningful content which talks about education for the girl child,” says Amulya.

While she was seen as a pampered child of a popular actor in her previous venture, in her latest role, Amulya will be seen as an innocent yet brave girl. “It is indeed a challenging character, as I am getting accustomed to the many demands of the character. Apart from looking like a typical village lass, I had to learn the basics of Kabbadi. Though, it is not entirely about the sport, the protagonist aspires for better education in the city, even as she is in the process of attaining that goal through a sports scholarship. I was never a sports person but the team conducted workshops to learn the basics of Kabbadi,” she shares.

However, Amulya is finding it tough to practice the village accent, and is also working on perfecting the language. With a huge fan following on social media, she reveals that she is an extremely shy person, especially whenever she encounters people in public forums.

“Work is totally different though, yet when I come across fans and admirers of my work in public, I feel extremely shy and many assume that I have an attitude. I just go blank when someone asks for a selfie,” she quips.

Surprisingly a majority of her admirers are girls, especially the younger lots who are very fond of her fashion quotient. “Most like my fashion sense, and even follow my hairstyle and accessories like the earrings I wear. With Kamali as a village girl, I am eagerly awaiting to connect with the audience and get their feedback,”

Despite several offers to work in movies, she has decided to work harder in television for some time before she takes on the big screen.
