Five women-centric mega soaps launched

Krithika, the telly actress who performs in a mega serial, says she is very happy with her space in television.

Female centric films are sporadic in Tamil cinema. But any mega Tamil soap on any television channel invariably revolves around a female protagonist. Initially, top actresses used to shift to ‘Chinna Thirai’ when they go out of the market in movies. The scenario has changed. Young women want to foray directly into TV series in titular characters.

Raj TV recently launched 5 mega ventures namely Kannamma, Hello Shyamala, Nalam Nalamariya Aaval, Kadal Kadandhu Udhyogam, which are all centred on women themes. “All the mega serials have diversified plots that co-relate with the life of women in today’s environment and how the empowered protagonist of each storyline takes the problems in her stride and bounces back forms the crux,” says Madhavan of Sri Bharathi Associate who produces these soaps.

Kannamma, with Archana in the title role, deals with an intelligent and beautiful school dropout from a poor background who works in a garment store and the intriguing things that happen around her. Her struggles and how she handles them forms the rest of the story.

Krithika, the telly actress who performs in a mega serial, says she is very happy with her space in television.

“I am getting varied types of roles and immense scope to prove my acting skills on TV series. I am happy and contented.” Akila and film actor Siva who was on a hiatus was also spotted at the event.
