Sandalwood singer-composer L N Shastry passes away at 46

The popular playback singer, composer and classical musician was recently diagnosed with cancer which was in its final stages.

Bengaluru: Popular playback singer, composer and classical musician, L N Shastry (46), passed away here on Wednesday. He was recently diagnosed with cancer which was in its final stages.

The talented singer and composer started his musical journey with 'Ajagajantara' in 1996 along with S. P. Balasubrahmanyam as a playback singer.

He was closely associated with composers - Nadabramha Hamsalekha and V. Manohar. His popular song, 'Kolumande Jangama Devaru...', composed by Manohar and picturised on Shivarajkumar for the film 'Janumada Jodi' won him state film award in best male playback singer category.

He has 3000 songs to his credit, and has composed music for at least 25 films starting from 'Kanasalu Neene Manasalu Neenu.' He initially sang for films starting Navasara Nayaka Jaggesh, and later worked for Crazy Star V. Ravichandran. He was even involved in producing a couple of films, and recently was one of the executive producer for the film 'Melody' which starred another popular singer Rajesh Krishnan in the lead.
