She completes seven years in Sandalwood after she made her debut in 2009, and three years later, the Coorg beauty ventured into Bollywood with her debut film Ajab Gazabb Love. While she’s busy with two more Bollywood projects, Nidhi Subbaiah has just finished shooting for Nanna Ninna Prema Kathe — a Kannada film starring Vijay Raghavendra. Nidhi speaks exclusively to Bengaluru Chronicle about her Sandalwood to Bollywood journey, her first ‘item number’ choreographed by Ganesh Acharya, and much more.
“I was busy with three Bollywood projects, two of which released. While promoting those two films, I was also simultaneously shooting for Nanna Ninna Prema Kathe,” says Nidhi Subbaiah, who shifted to Mumbai, three years ago.
She reveals that in her upcoming Hindi film (tentatively titled Sarathy), she is being introduced through an item song, which is a first in her career. “It was such a privilege to work with a popular and dedicated choreographer like Ganesh Acharya, who has choreographed songs like Sheela Ki Jawani and Chikni Chameli. In Sarathy, I play the role of a prostitute in Benares, who rescues a little girl from a dreaded group of villains,” she says, adding that she is acting alongside great talents like Rajpal Yadav, Rajesh Sharma of Tanu Weds Manu fame and Rajesh Srinivas, an award winning Marathi actor. The songs have also been sung by Kanika Kapoor of Baby Doll fame.
“Working for Nanna Ninna Prema Kathe alongside Vijay Raghavendra, it was really hectic and I hope it does well.” Ask her to compare the two industries and she says, “When I first sign a film, a detailed copy of the script is given to me. Then, there will be an exclusive workshop involving a special person who is assigned to train us as per the specifications of the script. This is where we get to meet the co-actors and share our thoughts. There are no surprises when shooting starts. I wish something like this also starts in Sandalwood.”
Nidhi opines that it has been an adventurous journey and she has been travelling all around for shooting and promotions. “I get up early and wonder which city I am in today. It has been very crazy. However, I enjoy the high standard of professionalism. I have no friends or any family members in Mumbai. I came to experience it as an adventure, and so far it has been great,” she concludes.
