You can dial the exclusive toll free number – 101 in case of emergencies, followed by the fire department to rescue the unsuspecting from any dangerous situation! However, if you are watching this tale set in the early 80s, no emergency service can rescue you from the disastrous 101 memories that sadly runs for more than two-and-a-half hours.

Noorondu Nenapu, a remake of the Marathi film Dunayadari, is based on the Marathi novel of the same name. So slow, even the tortoise from Aesop’s Fables might outrun Kumaresh’s meanderings in this Kannada version. It might even cause amnesia before it finally crawls to its lack lustre climax.

Mostly set in the early 80s, it revolves around the male protagonist Shreyas portrayed by Chetan, who hails from a wealthy family. However, when admitted to a new college, he comes across a local rowdy who is also a student of his new college. He eventually befriends him, becoming his close partner in all his activities. By now, he is already in love with a medical student Shruthi played by Meghana Raj. However, another girl from his class who is the daughter of a police officer is in love with Shreyas. Meanwhile, the local rowdy is totally bewitched with his childhood girlfriend. With numerous scenes that run on slow motion, its the interval with a twist, apparently!

Apart from the typical costumes and a makeshift set that tried hard to resemble the 80s, there is hardly anything new in this period tale that simmers on a very low flame of creativity. A negative character whose unique mannerisms deserve full credit, but end up being a laughter riot even though they were intended to be of a serious nature.

Insofar as Rajvardhan, son of veteran comedian Dingri Nagaraj, is concerned, his debut falls flat with hardly any memory left for him to cherish this poorly webbed story of love, friendship, and sacrifice. It indeed tests the patience of the audience and will probably go down as one of the worst memories for having decided to watch this Noorondu meaning 101, of painful memories.
