Lessons on the small screen

The actress who started her journey as a child artiste speaks of the new role she essays in Jodi Hakki.

She started her journey on the small screen as a child artiste way back in 2004 in Manasse O Mannase directed by senior director TS Nagabharana. Later, she ventured into films as well, making an appearance in C/O Footpath by the youngest director in Sandalwood, Kishan. The traditional looking Chaitra, who is also a part of a theatre group and has worked in several telefilms and documentaries, is now the beautiful primary school teacher stealing hearts on the small screen. The actress who plays the female lead in Jodi Hakki directed by Aroor Jagadish, speaks to Bengaluru Chronicle on playing the teacher, her inspiration for acting and more.

“I started early as a child artiste and then acted in a few films, telefilms directed by Ashok Kashyap Sir, and some documentaries too. I am still a part of the theatre group called Vijayanagara Bimba. Thereafter, I also did a couple of TV serials including Chakravyuha and Ragha Anuragha. I am a big fan of Kiccha Sudeep Sir. He inspired me to take up acting,” says Chaitra.

On taking up Jodi Hakki, she adds that it was due to Aroor Jagadish’s direction, and the channel’s support which made it very comfortable to work in. The teacher’s role is endearing and sweet, and she is having the time of her life essaying the role.

“Apart from acting, I was always fascinated by the teaching profession. Most of us initially wanted to become teachers, I think. At least, I get to play the noble profession onscreen. Though it is fun to shoot outdoors and in rural areas, the summer heat really takes a toll on the entire crew. Unlike films, serials are days-long in terms of shoots and activities, and many a times, they are shot around the clock without a break,” she says.

Chaitra is also a seasoned Bharatanatyam dancer and loves to sketch when she gets the time, “As long as the work is fun, other things do not matter. The schedule is usually 15 to 20 days a month. Working for a long time, the cast and crew become a part of one’s life. My mother usually accompanies me to the shoots. Right now, I am happily placed, and I dream of sharing the bigger screen space with my inspiration — Kiccha Sudeep Sir,” she smiles, before signing off. We sure hope Kiccha Sudeep is reading this!
