Impressed by quality of films at Bengaluru International Film Festival: Kasaravalli

He said the high standards of the films shown had given it a huge boost.

Mysuru: As the eight-day long Bengaluru International Film Fest, held for the first time simultaneously in Bengaluru and Mysuru, came to a close on Friday, noted filmmaker, Girish Kasarvalli lauded the quality of films shown. Calling the festival a “celebration of art and cinema,” he said the high standards of the films shown had given it a huge boost.

A galaxy of Sandalwood stars like Jayamala, Bharathi, B Saroja Devi, Hema Chaudari, Jai Jagdeesh, Prameela Joshi, Jyothi graced the glittering concluding event held in the backdrop of the Mysuru palace.

Speaking on the occasion, S V Rajendra Singh Babu, chairman of the Karnataka Chalanachithra Academy, which co-hosted the festival with the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce and Department of Information and Public Relations, called on the directorate of festivals to market more Indian movies overseas and also bring more international fare to Mysuru and Bengaluru. He also suggested a spot be created to house 30 cinema houses for screening Kannada movies in Mysuru.

Chief Minister Siddarmaiah, who presented awards to the winning films event, promised to hold more such film fests in Karnataka in future. As many as 175 films from 62 countries were screened during the fest and were watched by around one lakh people over the week.

Vidhaaya made by P Sheshadri, Naanu Avanalla Avalu made by B S Lingadevaru, and Puta Thirugisi Nodu made by Suneel Raghavendra bagged the first, second and third awards respectively in the Kannada section.

While the Indian Panaroma award went to the Marathi movie, The Silence, two special jury awards went to AIN made by Sidhartha Shiva and to the Hindi film, Island City. The Asian Netpac section awards went to Thithi (Kannada) made by Ramreddy and Under Heaven made by Dalmira Tilepbergen from Kyrgstan.

The Netpac International award for a Kannada film was presented to Saalada Magu made by Umashankar Swamy. The awards carried a sum of Rs 15 lakh each.

Housing Minister, Ambareesh, Minister for Department of Information and Public Relations, Roshan Baig, Co-operation Minister, H S Mahadevprasad, were present on the occasion as were Kanteerava Studios chairperson, Vijayalakshmi Singh and producer, K C N Chandrashekar.
