Cloned for 16 musical years

Them Clones, are celebrating 16 years of music, with a new groovy version of Zephyrreta.

1. How did the idea come about?
We were at a gig where Samrat was playing. We've worked together before, and he proposed the idea of taking Zephyretta in a completely new, non-rock direction. That's where it started.

2. Tell us about the original inspiration of the track and what it means?
The lyricist of the track, Gucci Singh, drew inspiration from poet Percy Shelley's work. Zephyretta is a personification of Zephyr, the gentle breeze.

3. Considering electronica is the current popular favourite of the club circuit among others, how important is it for rock bands to adapt to electronic sounds to capture a different audience?
I don't think it's important at all. Audiences connect with who you really are, and force fits never work. So, if electronica sounds are blending naturally with your existing sound, then it's worth exploring. Not just for the heck of being ‘popular’ or ‘trendy’.

4. What has been keeping the band busy? We haven't seen you performing live as much.
There are a couple of family matters that need attention at the moment. But we released a remix and a video too! New songs have been happening. We've done a couple of corporate projects too in order to keep the machinery running. There is a massive collaboration in the works.

5. Zephyretta is one of the most covered songs in the history on Indian indies. Does a sentence like that make you feel strange?
We really respect the fact that musicians have taken the time to cover the track. The indie scene is still very, small and far from mainstream. And statements like these are, funnily enough, not worth their weight, whether or not they are correct.

6. What do you think of the current environment of indie music? is it better from the time you started off?
Thankfully, things have been getting better. There have been a growing number of venues, artistes and content and, more recently, the festival scene has been growing too. All great signs.

8. Tell us a little about your future plans.
We hope to start working on our album soon and maybe, doing a bigger version of Clonefest this year.
