Boundless music for all

Sachin and You, a music collective launched by the noted singer,is aimed at dissolving the gap between the performer and the audience.

‘Feel how the planet’s, become one, beats like a drum, to the same rhythm...’ Does Shakira still give you chill bumps? Better join Sachin Warrier and feel it closer-to-home. The singer/composer has put across a concept he doesn’t prefer to call new, but is fresh, lively and novel in so many ways. ‘Sachin Warrier and You’ is his brainchild where he invites everyone who listens to him to come and sing along. What could be called an independent music collective, this venture, would have in future tailor-made compositions to engage the audience along with the singer.

“This format has been here for long and I wanted it to be more intimate. ‘You’ can be whoever is listening or watching. It should bridge the performer-audience demarcation. Music makes it so informal. My own compositions have been like this. A crowd of about 200 people could be entertained thus,” he says.

There’s nothing official about it, but with his about-to-be-released single Kannamma, ‘Sachin Warrier and You’ comes closer. Last week, he put it on Facebook. “Kannamma is a word that has fascinated me with its simplicity and depth. A couple of notes formed around the word and it became a song at some point. We have put in a lot of love into making this. I really hope you’ll feel all of that when we bring this out.”

Kannamma was devised to make many feet tap to nostalgic tunes and rhythms. “There is some recognisable tune in it, some kind of classical, Ilaiyaraaja type Tamil folk. The single was created long back. Prathap joined in to complete the lyrics and soon we had a shoot. It is now up for the audience,” he explains about the album to be out tomorrow.

In all probability, step two is just two months away, if things fall in place. He plans to do a multi-city tour, cover a select few cities in two-weeks’ span and reach out to more listeners.

Very soon, we could listen to him in Kannada too. “My first movie in Kannada has just started rolling. In Malayalam, I have one song for Orayiram Kinakkalal,” he says.

Another milestone, of creating his own record label, is becoming a reality with SWAY Records, to be launched in not-too-far future, “SWAY is more about raising new artists,” he reveals. The ad world also keeps this jingle-maker busy at his Bengaluru-based work space.
