All the world's a musical stage

Bangalore School of Music is putting together a charitable fund raiser which will bring a mellifluous combination of world music.

Sometimes all you really have to do is, be present and listen. The Bangalore School of Music will be putting together an incredible musical soiree this weekend to raise funds for the communities that Concern Universe Foundation, a non-profit organisation in the city, works for. True to their word, BSM and the other artistes will be bringing a mellifluous combination of world music. MR Jagadeesh, Director- Operations of BSM and a jazz artiste himself tells us more about the concert. “I think our music will connect with the audience in Bangalore who are open to all styles of music. The cause is something we are all part of. We will be performing Jazz Fusion, an amalgam of Jazz, Indian classical and World Sounds,” he says.

Among an interesting lineup of The BSM Children's Choir, Junior Orchestra and Star String Ensembles, Jagadeesh, Madhuri and Harsha Jade and Robin Colaco, Mother-daughter duo Mythili Anantharaman and Bhoomika Anantharaman will also be performing at this concert. “We will be performing Indian classical numbers with a fusion touch to it. We will be accompanied by a bass guitarist, and and Indian percussionist. This is a crossover of music and would appeal to the connoisseurs of all genres. We are trying to do something unique here. There will be a lot of variety at this concert which should be interesting for the audience.” says Mythili. Her daughter Bhoomika is also a student at BSM like her mother, and the duo promise to bring the best of both worlds. Bhoomika adds, “Along with my father on the bass guitar and a family friend, Mr Nataraj playing the dholak and tabla, I will also be accompanying them on the piano. This is fusion but it's also classical. The piano gives it a new vibe but also keeps it traditional. I started singing Hindustani at 3 and then as I grew up training in carnatic as well as jazz and showtunes. I really live by all three genres.”

Engaging in a diverse fair with genres including Western Classical, Indian Classical, Fusion Jazz and many other popular music forms, this is the best of Bengaluru. Robin Colaco, a jazz musician who will be performing says, “My music is a bouquet of jazz and blues combined. I hope the audience will be able to take this musical high back home with them, as this will be something they have not heard before. This has a mix of everything and you could get a glorious collaboration of the yesteryear and the modern from here.”

The event will be held on Saturday, October 21, 6 pm at Aruna Sunderlal Auditorium, The Bangalore School of Music, CBI Main Road,
RT Nagar.
