Kaveri, the talented and creative

Kaveri, daughter of Suchitra Krishnamoorthi and Shekhar Kapur is making waves in the music world.

Suchitra Krishnamoorthi and Shekhar Kapur’s teenage daughter Kaveri Kapur wants to be known for her music more than her famous last name.

The 16-year-old teenager’s first single Did You Know, received over one million hits online and her second song Half a heart has been receiving some rave reviews on social media.

Kaveri started learning Indian classical music at the age of six and has been writing and composing her own songs since she was 11, “I have always being inclined to music and started learning Indian classical singing at very young age. I once visited a studio and fell in love with music,” she shares.

Inheriting her writing genes from her father Shekhar Kapur, Kaveri thinks she is a very spontaneous writer. “I started writing at the age of 10. Some people write on the basis of what they experience, while others are always spontaneous, I think I’m a spontaneous writer. Words just come naturally to me,” she shares.

Being a celebrity kid has its own share of perks but her parents ensured that she had a protected childhood. “My parents have always made sure that I’m always away from the limelight and stay protected, I’m very grateful to them for giving me the time to be myself,” she says.

Ask her if she exchanges notes with her parents while writing and she says, “I write songs and I like keeping them to myself and I’m very shy and do not show it to anyone. My mom does accompany me at times for my final recording sessions. I know I’m not a perfectionist and I obsess over my music a lot, my parents have to literally calm me down and tell me that I sound okay,” she adds.

Just like kids her age, Kaveri loves hanging out with her friends and pursuing music, “I’m learning how to play the piano and the guitar. I have phases where I tend to read a lot,” she adds.

A die-hard Adele fan, she can’t stop gushing about her favourite pop star. “Adele is so talented! I’d love to share the stage with her but I’d probably pass out on the stage just with the excitement,” she smiles.

Acting was never on her agenda and Kaveri now wants to focus only on her musical aspirations. “I was never inclined towards acting as a child. I thought I'd be terrible at it. I want to put out more music and come up with an album, go to a music school. I like Priyanka Chopra's music and hope to collaborate with her someday,” she signs off.
