For many a music lover, Wednesday morning began with a music video that has slowly begun to get shares. A ‘Bijibal Medley’, cover version of some of his most loved and latest songs. The focus soon shifts to the singer, a face everyone remembers from one of the popular music reality shows. Ajay Sathyan, he was one among the favorites back in the day when a music reality show was a novel idea in Kerala.
Though he went onto sing for a few movies after the show, Ajay took a break from music. He has now come back to where it all began, with a new plan and a handful of new music.
“I have a band now, called Prayaan. Apart from that I have my own project with a handful of own compositions,” he says. His songs will be performed for a popular TV channel in two weeks. “The recording work for the same is going on right now,” he adds.
Speaking more about his songs, Ajay says, “I have been working on this for the past one year. I was working in Mumbai and I decided to to relocate to Kerala to pursue music. So this project started last November. It is one of my dream projects. I will be bringing together musicians of the Cochin Strings for this one.”
Elaborating about the kind of songs he has composed, he says, “The songs are in Malayalam. One has ‘rain’ as its theme. The lyrics for this one is penned by one of my aunts, Sasikala. Another song is based on Sree Narayana Guru’s writing called Daivadasakam. I have taken a part from it and composed it. The third song is a Krishi Paattu, the song of the farmers. These songs were used by our farmers back when they wanted to protest against the system. I found the lyrics of the song after a lot of research online. These are basically Vaymozhipaatu (songs passed on orally). Apart from these there are two cover songs as well.”
Speaking about Prayaan, Ajay says, “Although it started as a cover band, we are now focusing more on creating our own music, something that today’s young music lovers can associate with. It will be our collective effort. We are ready with one song, the recording is done. We are waiting to get the video done.”
