Audience walk out at AR Rahman concert

Fans at his gig in London are upset that most of his songs were in Tamil.

Mozart of Madras, A. R. Rahman, was slammed on social media after his fans reportedly walked out of his concert at Wembley Stadium in London as “most of the songs were in Tamil”.

The gig, ‘Netru, Indru, Naalai’, took place on July 8. Twitter user Saurabh Sethi wrote, “Need more Hindi Punjabi songs #ARRahman #Wembley #ssearena feels like come to a South Indian concert @arrahman (sic).” Omer Chowdhury tweeted, “That was my first ever Tamil concert guys. Albeit completely unintentional #ARRahman #SSEArena #Fail #Refund (sic).”

Organisers then issued a statement and list of songs performed by Rahman, which included 16 Hindi song, 12 Tamil songs and 1 medley. Many people, including a few celebrities, came forward in support of Rahman, pointing out that language should not be a barrier for music.
