For the love of fusion music

Strains of music will fill the air in the city during Suswara on November 14.

Hyderabad’s relationship with classical music is an old one. But as times are changing, some people are coming together to make the roots more strong yet diversified. The city will witness ‘Suswara’, a classic fusion of Carnatic music with other music genres like Arabic alaaps and rap, on November 14 at Phoenix Arena.

Elaborating further about the initiative, Veera Sanker, Tollywood film director and the founder of HTO Club, says, “The whole concept of this fusion programme is to get more and more people of the young generation into classical music. Youngsters are more attracted to rock and fusion music and we thought this will be the perfect amalgamation.” Sriram, the CEO of HTO Club further adds, “We are bringing around 25 music students from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu under one platform to pay tribute to musical legends.” The three-hour musical extravaganza will have students and masters on one stage. Popular singers Nihal, Sreenidhi and Pruthvi Chandra will be the guest performers. “I have been learning Carnatic music since the last 10 years and in this programme, I will be performing thillanas with bass guitar, keyboard and tabla. I am really excited and have been practising since three days now,” says 18-year-old Rashmi Kappu.

Another young performer, Lalsa, feels as singers it is absolutely important to know how to sing other genres too. Shreya Madhuri, a student of class IX, says, “We have never attempted this kind of performance before. For us young singers, it’s like broadening our horizons.” According to Sreenidhi, it will be the perfect opportunity and platform for all budding musicians. “Music is one and above all race and caste,” concludes Sreenidhi.
