Sakka Podu Podu Raja movie review: Simbu's maiden music attempt is good

When comedian Santhanam turned a hero, he was choosing scripts to suit his strengths, thus giving decent hits.

Director: Sethuraman

Cast: Santhanam, Vaibhavi Shandilya, Vivekh, VTV Ganesh

When comedian Santhanam turned a hero, he was choosing scripts to suit his strengths and hence his previous outings as the lead protagonist were decent hits. But 'Sakka Podu Podu Raja', replete with all mass elements, is an attempt to project Santa as a big commercial hero. Does he succeed?

The movie begins with Santa (Santhanam) helping a girl who is actually the sister of a gangster Bhavani (Sampath) to elope with her lover. An enraged Bhavani is after Santa who is now in Bengaluru. Meanwhile, Santa meets a beautiful medical student Yazhini (Vaibhavi Shandiya) and falls for her instantly. While initially Yazhini is least interested in him, a turn of events make Yazhini reciprocate the love. When all goes well, Santa realizes that Yazhini is actually Bhavani’s younger sister. The rest is how our hero comes across several hurdles to win over Yazhini’s hands with the screenplay following the template of a high-octane action sequence. This is followed by a mindless comedy scene and then the romantic dance routines in exotic locations abroad. And needless to say, there are innumerable characters that walk in and out of each scene along with Santhanam.

Santhanam has taken a lot of efforts in the fight sequences and that shows. He has even taken care to look fit as a hero and dances decently during the songs. But he looks uncomfortable while mouthing punch lines. One wishes he could have concentrated on the script. For there’s hardly any content in the form of story and though projected as a laugh riot, it fails to evoke laughter. Vaibhavi fits the glam quotient. Vivekh’s comedy works in most parts and VTV Ganesh is just about adequate. Every woman in the film is portrayed as a sexual object to create cheap thrills. Sarath Lohitvasha’s role doesn’t gel anywhere in the script.

Simbu’s maiden music attempt is good and the BGM is also appreciable.
