Tamilselvanum Thaniyar Anjalum movie review: Enjoyable only in parts

Tamilselvan (Jai), a college dropout comes to Chennai in search of a job and stays with his sister and brother-in-law (VTV Ganesh). With great reluctance he agrees to do the courier boy job to help his friend Nasa (Santhanam). He meets a salesgirl Kavya(Yami Gautam) and falls in love at first sight. Tamizh continues to do the job to impress Kavya.

In a parallel move, we are shown that a group of doctors led by Dr Arun (Ashutosh Rana) indulges in illegal activities of extracting stem cells from pregnant women. When the ward boy of the hospital comes to know of Arun’s conspiracy, in a bid to exposes them he couriers all the details to a social activist Sathyamoorthy (Nasser). And as expected the courier lands in Tamizh’s hands. Now, Arun’s men are after him to snatch and stop it from reaching Moorthy. The onus of exposing the culprits falls on Tamizh and how he accomplishes against all odds forms the rest.

Jai is as usual with his typical mannerisms and dialogue delivery and is apt for a courier boy. Yami Guatm looks ravishing and she is sort of misfit as a sales girl. She hardly has any scope to perform except appearing in song and dance routines, which serve as speed beaker in a thriller. There’s also a lack of onscreen chemistry between Yami and Jai. Santhanam is back as a comedian and tries to evoke laughter through his dated jokes. Ashutosh is menacing although in a restricted role, while Nasser scores as usual.

Seemingly inspired by Hollywood flick Premium Rush, debutant Premsai has tweaked the script to suit the local flavor. On paper, the idea might have looked thought provoking, but while transferring it to onscreen he misses out in his narrative. Karthik’s music is okay. The commercial thriller is enjoyable only in parts.
