No Yakshi performance: Rajashree Warrier

Writing on Facebook the dancer cited some unexpected reason for cancelling the show on April 4.

Thiruvananthapuram: Dancer and television personality Rajashree Warrier posted on Facebook that she would not be presenting a Bharatanatyam performance based on Kanayi Kunhiraman's famous sculpture Yakshi on April 4. "A notice had come about the performance from the organisers. But due to some unexpected reasons I would not be able to present 'Yakshi' on that day," she wrote. Soon comments followed on the post, asking why the director's name on the notice was given as Pramod Payyannur, filmmaker and secretary at Bharat Bhavan, one of the organisers of the event, celebrating Kanayi's 80th birthday.

"It was a mistake made by the people who printed the poster. We are associating with a cultural organisation called Kala to put together the event. They brought out the poster, and perhaps due to lack of time, made a few mistakes. Our name (Bharat Bhavan's) was also omitted at places. When I learnt about this, I have spoken to her and cleared the air. In the official poster we have brought out, it is corrected," Pramod says.

Rajashree will present another performance on the same day, Pramod adds. "She could not get all members of the orchestra team she was hoping for, so the performance had to be changed," he says. Rajashree, who also wrote on her Facebook post that there will be another performance of Yakshi soon, did not wish to comment.
