Bijukuttan is back to cheer us

Actor Bijukuttan is back in the limelight with Basil Joseph directed Godha.

It was with the 2006-film Pothan Vava that Bijukuttan, who was then a mimicry artist, entered filmdom. He then became an integral part of M’town as a comedian for about five years. Now, after a brief gap, Bijukuttan is returning to the limelight and the latest in his filmography is Tovino Thomasstarrer Godha, directed by Basil Joseph.

“I was part of Basil’s previous film Kunjiramayanam,” says Bijukuttan. “In fact, we were not friends when I acted in that movie. It was through his associate director Dipil Dev with whom I worked in Aadu that I reached Kunjiramayanam. We became good friends after the first film. He indicated to me later that he would call me for his next, too. That was how I landed up on Godha.”

Most of his characters have a pet name, and that’s a speciality.

“It is true that the lion’s share of my characters had pet names. But to be frank, those were the roles which helped me become popular among the films buffs. Even in Godha, I do not know what my official name is,” laughs the comedian.

The question that he often faces now is where he had been in the last five years. “I was here, and was acting in films as usual,” says the actor. “But, unfortunately the films that I have done during that period did not get noticed. And it was during this period the so called new generation films got made and I was not in the friends’ gang of these films. So I could not be part of their movies either. It was then I got call for Aadu and that movie became a reason for my comeback. When Kunjiramayanam entered the hit chart, my presence, too, became noted by film buffs.”

What are his future projects? “Currently I am acting in Ajai Vasudev’s new film in Kollam, which has Mammookka (Mammootty) in the lead role. Once it is over, I would join Sajid Yahiya’s movie titled Mohanlal, which will feature Manju Warrier and Indrajith in the lead roles. A Vineeth Sreenivasan film is also in my list,” he sums up.
