Malabar movie fest from today

Films include The Young Karl Marx, I Still Hide to Smoke.

KOZHIKODE: The 3-day Malabar Movie Festival (MMF) will open in Koyilandy on Friday, featuring 16 films in international, national, Malayalam sections, besides open forums, commemorations and book fair. The films include The Young Karl Marx, I Still Hide to Smoke, Poetry is an Island, Happy End, I Dream in Another Language, Karutha Joothan, Swaroopam, Richter Scale 7.6 and Akatho Puratho.

The documentary schedule has Work of Fire, Marunnamma, Uranjadunna Deshangal and Mother Bird. Noted short films have also been included in the package. Editor-turned-director B. Ajith Kumar of Eeda fame will inaugurate the fifth edition of MMF at 5 pm at Municipal Town Hall. Director Sanal Kumar Sasidharan will speak on 'Resistance in films' followed by transgender Sheetal Shyam on 'Gender Justice in reel world'.

On Saturday, an open forum will be held on the topic, 'Challenges and opportunities of independent filmmaking'. On Sunday, senior journalist C. Gouridasan Nair will speak at the K.R Mohan commemoration event. Aadi Foundation, Kerala chapter of Federation of film societies of India, Insite film society are joining hands with the film festival hosted by the municipality. Film critique C.S. Venkateswaran is the festival director.
