Vijay-starrer Theri redefined the career of Malayali actor Bineesh Bastin, who was till then content with insignificant roles. Now he is getting prominent roles in films. The latest news is that Bineesh has been promoted to essay a lead role in an upcoming film, Mahadevan–directed Oru Mahasambhavam.
“It was while acting in Shine Tom Chacko’s Dum in Thiruvananthapuram, that the director approached me with the script of Oru Mahasambhavam. They said, they were planning to cast me in the lead role and I told them that I was not ready to take such a responsibility in this initial stage of my career. But I found it an interesting subject.”
“It is an out and out fun film and in fact I was waiting to act in a humour-oriented film. That was how I became part of this movie,” says the actor who is getting ready to enact the lead role in a Tamil film also.
He says, “That film is titled Aadavadi Kathal. It is expected to start soon and many newcomers are there behind this project.”
Bineesh feels that Theri has completely changed his life. “I have been in this industry for a decade. But it was after acting in that Tamil film that I got roles with more than one scene. You know what? Earlier, tea for me on the locations was served in steel cups. Now, I am getting the same in glass tumbler. Production teams have started allotting good hotel rooms and giving decent salaries. Recently I bought an EON car without taking a loan. I could buy it with cash that I received from functions and inaugurations organised by different associations including that of Vijay fans,” he says.
Bineesh, who is currently acting in Raffi-directed Fahadh Faasil film Role Models, also has another Tamil film, which is under production. “I will be acting in an upcoming Vijay film. Besides, I have got a call to work in the Hindi remake of Theri which is under pre-production,” he sums up.
