Deva and the Devi(L)

Prabhu Deva was in Kochi to promote his latest, Devi(L), a multi-lingual horror comedy directed by A.L. Vijay.

‘When can we expect you in Malayalam cinema again?’ Actor Prabhu Deva, who was last seen in Urumi, smiles at this question from the crowd before replying, “I am not getting any offers from here. If I get one, I will definitely come to Malayalam cinema.” And, everybody bursts into laughter.

Prabhu Deva was in Kochi for the promotion of his upcoming movie Devi(L) directed by A.L. Vijay. A multi-lingual horror comedy, the movie will be released under the title Abhinetri in Telugu and Tutak Tutak Tutiya in Hindi. It will be dubbed in Malayalam.

“It is for the first time that I am promoting my movie like this. And, I enjoy interacting with you all,” he smiles.

In the movie, Prabhu Deva plays the male lead Tamizh, a man who yearns to marry a modern girl. “However, he marries a village girl and is unhappy with her. But eventually, Tamizh realises his wife’s worth and starts loving her. That is my character,” says Prabhu Deva. Tamannaah plays the role of his wife. She appears in double in Devi(L) – as Devi, a village woman and Rubi, a modern woman. Amy Jackson’s cameo is another highlight of the movie.

Tamannaah says that she had a great time working with the team. The movie has a steamy number by Tamannaah, which she did after ten days’ practice. ‘The dance will be good if you enjoy doing it.’ This was the advice from Prabhu Deva to Tamannaah.

This philosophy seems to permeate the man. Prabhu Deva, who is back to limelight after a short gap, says, “The whole journey of Devi(L) was really good. We had a lot of fun on the sets. It was really a great experience to render dialogues in three different languages for the same movie. I had a great time.”

Like all his previous movies, Devi(L) has also utilised Prabhu Deva’s dancing prowess. The Chalmaar song is an example. “I want other dancers to be easy. I always make sure that they do better than me.”

Produced by K. Ganesh, Devi(L) will hit the theatres on October 7. The movie also has Nassar, Sonu Sood, R.J. Balaji, Sathish, Murali Sharma, and Abijith Paul in prominent roles.
