Arul - the new baddie on the block

The former corporate employee says that getting here hasn't been easy for him.

Actor Arul appeared in several shorts before making his debut as a villain in the critically acclaimed thriller Vidiyum Munn. His performance as an ageing gangster in Vijay Antony’s Yaman earned him much acclaim, and today, he has at least half a dozen projects in his kitty.

The former corporate employee says that getting here hasn’t been easy for him. “I left a cushy job thinking that I would make it big in films. My dream was to become a filmmaker. But when I met Balumahendra sir, he said that I should appear in front of the camera, rather than remaining behind it. He enrolled me in his acting school and taught me acting as well as the different aspects of filmmaking. That was an eye-opener for me,” Arul says.

The actor adds that it took him three years to finally get his big break. “I’ve done 18 flicks as a villain, including Amarakaviyam, and today I am a known face, thanks to Karthik Naren, who showcased my talents in Dhuruvangal 16. Now, he has cast me in a key role once again in Naragasooran.”

Arul’s forthcoming movies include 60 Vayadhu Maaniram, Unarvu, and Kuttram Purindhaal.
