Sibiraj says no to villain roles

Sibi played a villain in Jiiva's Pokkiri Raja.

Sibiraj, whose previous film Jackson Durai was considered a hit, has completed shooting for his upcoming Kattappavae Kaanom. In the movie, a fish named Kattappa plays a vital role for which Vijay Sethupathi has lent his voice. When Sibi was asked why they didn’t consider Sathyaraj for the voice for the fish, since they have used Kattappa’s (his character in Baahubali) namesake in the film, he says, “I teamed up with my father for Jackson Durai which became a hit, so I didn’t want to make him a regular in my films. In addition, using his character’s name and his voice would not come as a surprise. That is why we went for Vijay Sethupathi, who is a very good friend of mine.”

“For the first time in my life, I play the role of an IT professional. The film involves dark comedy as well,” he says, adding, “Two of my previous films were hits, and I am sure that the content of Kattappavae Kaanom has the capability to make it a hat-trick.” In this film, he shares the screen with Aishwarya Rajesh. “Acting alongside a national award-winning actress is a huge plus. It encouraged me to deliver a performance that is on par with hers,” he adds.

Sibi played a villain in Jiiva’s Pokkiri Raja. Even though his performance was appreciated, the film received flak for its content. When queried if he would take up negative roles in the future, he said, “I received a lot of offers to play negative roles. But, I don’t want to do such roles forever.” Sibi will next feature in the remake of Telugu film Kshanam, which will be produced by their home banner Nathambal Film Factory.
