Dhuruvangal Padhinaaru... sans heroine, romance and songs

The movie, which will be released by Dream Factory Pictures, does not have a female lead.

Actor Rahman, who made a comeback in Tamil with Jyothika’s 36 Vayadhinile, seems to be a busy man these days. After playing an Interpol officer in Ajith’s Billa and a Mumbai cop in Vandhaan Vendraan apart from several M’town flicks, he will sport khaki once again for a crime thriller titled Dhuruvangal Padhinaaru. Directed by 21-year-old debutant Karthik Naren, the story of the film takes place in 16 hours!

Quiz Naren about the title, and he answers, “The film has 16 characters and Rahman sir’s role is the fulcrum around which they revolve. Each one is a like an independent pole, and the story takes place in 16 hours — hence the title!”

The movie, which will be released by Dream Factory Pictures, does not have a female lead, a romantic relationship, songs, punch lines or double-meaning comedy. “All these things will act as speed breakers in a high-octane crime thriller. So I deliberately avoided them,” he explains.

Speaking about Rahman’s character, Karthik says, “He essays a policeman who becomes inactive after he gets hurt and disabled while at work. He returns to his job after five years with renewed vigour.” Heaping praise on the actor, he quips, “Initially, I was very apprehensive about directing a veteran actor like him, whose experience is greater than my age. But, he was very jovial and down to earth. He put me at ease and gave me full freedom. In fact, I learnt a lot from him!”
