Ramya Krishnan inspires Suja Varunee

On her role model, the actress says, Undoubtedly, it is Ramya Krishnan! She stands out despite being in an ensemble cast.

Suja Varunee, who has successfully turned into a character artiste, was critically-acclaimed for her performance in the recently-released campus thriller Pencil. She rechristened herself from Suja to Suja Varunee for better prospects — and after waiting patiently for years, the actress says it has worked in her favour!

“I don’t brood over the past or get jealous of others’ growth. I do agree; I don’t have anyone to guide me properly. But in spite of having no godfathers, I have made it in the industry. I put in my hard work which I honestly believe will pay,” she says.

Speaking about Pencil, in which she played a meaty role, Suja says, “Though I am not the lead in Pencil, I appear throughout the film. There’s a suspense element built on my character, and I have been getting positive feedback even since the movie got released. At least 200 people have left their comments on my Twitter and FB pages! I am extremely happy about it.”

Suja tells us that she wants to act in performance-oriented roles such as a psychopath, a mentally deranged lady and even in horror films! “I don’t mind even a role with grey shades,” she quips.

On her role model, the actress says, “Undoubtedly, it is Ramya Krishnan! She stands out despite being in an ensemble cast. She shines in any kind of role — be it positive, negative, modern or rural. She even excels in dance. She has her own identity and I know how she has had to struggle to reach and retain this place,” Varunee says, smiling. The actress is busy with half a dozen movies, including Vaa Deal, Kidaari, Sathuram 2, and a few untitled films that are in her kitty.
