Hrithik to remake 24?

Remaking Tamil blockbusters in Bollywood is a time-tested trend.

Remaking Tamil blockbusters in Bollywood is a time-tested trend. Blockbusters including Ghajini, Singam, Thuppaki and Mouna Guru have been remade in B'town after their release in Tamil. Talks for remakes usually start only after it hits the marquee in the original language.

But Suriya’s upcoming (May 6 release) sci-fi entertainer 24 is already hot in the trade. The movie is produced by the actor’s home banner 2D Entertainment and directed by Vikram Kumar. Suriya’s versatility will be exhibited in three different roles, one of the characters being Athreya, an intelligent villain. Samantha and Nithya Menen play the female leads.

Suriya confirms to DC that some B’town producers and actors have shown keen interest in buying its remake rights. “80 per cent of the movie has been shot in Mumbai with expensive sets erected specially for the film. Post production and CG were done in places like Prime Focus. Many technicians and people who worked from Mumbai for 24 knew about the potential of the script, and that could be the reason for interest from Bollywood.

Yes, Hrithik Roshan’s dad Rakesh Roshan wanted to watch the film, as they are interested to remake it in Hindi. But, as a practice, it was not possible for us to screen the movie for them before its release,” he explains.
