Mani Ratnam to reunite Rajinikanth and Mammootty after Thalapathi?

The ace director is reportedly in talks to get the two superstars back on screen together after a long gap of 25 years.

Mumbai: Mani Ratnam's is counted among the stalwarts of the country for a reason. The ace auteur has belted out one pathbreaking after another, over the course of three decades.

While most of his films enjoy an unparalleled cult status, a few of them have stuck with fans across generations.

One such film was 1991's 'Thalapathi,' which had sensationally united thriving superstars Rajinikanth and Mohanlal onscreen.

The film, famed for its characterisation, storytelling, and performances, still commands immense recall value.

Mani, whose latest flick 'Kaatru Veliyidai' recently hit the theatres, might be all set to reunite the two stalwarts.

According to a report in TheNewsMinute, Mani is currently working on a script with the two in mind, building roles suiting their stature and calibre.

The film, said to be eyeing a 2018 release, would be one of the most sensational collaborations in recent Kollywood memory.

Rajini, who's currently working on Shankar's juggernaut '2.0' alongside Akshay Kumar, will soon commence work on Pa Ranjith's untitled next, to be produced by Dhanush. While Rajini is known to work on a single film at a time, it remains to be seen if he will be making an exception for Mani.

Mammootty on the other hand is still basking in the tremendous success of his latest release, 'The Great Father'.
