Kamal Haasan lauds Pinarayi Vijayan yet again

The actor praised the Kerala CM for the government circular, which states that people need not enter their caste in the birth certificate.

Kamal Haasan, who calls himself a rationalist and moved away from his Brahminical roots, recently lauded Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for his decision of appointing 36 non-Brahmin priests in temples managed by the Travancore Devaswom Board.

Once again, he took to his social media account to heap laurels on the Kerala CM for his government circular, which states that people need not enter their caste in the birth certificate.

Calling it historic, Kamal recalled as how he did not fill caste or religion columns in his daughters’ birth certificate.

He posted on his social media handle, “Bravo again Kerala Govt. Your circular is historic. I have refused filling caste and religion columns in my daughters’ birth certificates. My daughters decided after they were 21. Shruti has chosen to be Hindu. Akshara might stay without caste or religion.”

The Kerala government circular also states, “Those who wish to mention caste in that column are at liberty to do so. Those who do not want to mention religion can say ‘Religion not stated’. Caste column being left vacant will not be an
impediment in availing scholarships on the basis of merit.”

Meanwhile

Though Kamal and Rajinikanth have professional rivalry on screen, they always valued each other's friendship and share a great rapport, which was evident when NTR National Awards was announced recently.

“Congratulations, Superstar Rajinikanth for the NTR National award in 2016,” Kamal wrote, and added, “Thank you Andhra for honouring me also, yet again. I am indebted to your continued support, which started early in my career.”
Rajini, on his part, replied, “Thank you Kamal... I wish you the same !!! Congratulations! (sic)”
