National award winning Tamil lyricist Na Muthukumar dies at the age of 41

Tamil Nadu: Two-time national award winning lyricist Na. Muthukumar passed away in Chennai, on Sunday, succumbing to a bout of jaundice. Muthukumar was 41 and is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

He first won the award for the song 'Aananda Yazhai Meetukiral' in the film 'Thangameenkal' and the second award was for the song 'Azhage Azhagu' in 'Saivam'.

Muthukumar also wrote for films of Selvaragahavan and the song ‘Ninaithu Ninaithu Parthen’ from ‘7G Rainbow Colony’ became one of his evergreen film songs. His ‘Anil Aadum Mundril’, a poetic narration published in the Tamil weekly ‘Ananda Vikatan’, proved his grip on the language and a great observation of Tamil life.

Muthukumar dreamt of becoming a director initially and even worked as an associate for Balu Mahendra. A native of Kancheepuram, Muthukumar was also a distant relative of DMK founder C.N. Annadurai.

DMK leader M. Karunanidhi expressed his grief over the lyricist’s death, saying he was shocked by the sudden demise of the lyricist.
