Vijay’s Rs 100 crore demand

Thalapathy Vijay is the first Indian actor to ask for Rs 100 crore upfront for a film, and all as ‘white’ (accounted) money.

Highly placed sources in the industry reveal that a Mumbai-based producer has approached the South sensation to work in his untitled Tamil project. “You will be surprised to know that Vijay’s team asked for Rs 100 crore and the producer was asked to also add 18 per cent GST to that amount for the project. And Vijay wanted the entire money (Rs 118 crore) in white,” said the source.

Vijay’s last film earned around Rs 150 crores and that figure doubled from box office collections worldwide. The revenue was boosted by a huge amount by the sale of other rights, including music, television, digital etc.

“Where have you heard of a regional star asking for so much money? But well, he has asked for it because he is worth it, we guess. Many other stars prefer a profit share and hence take a cut in salary”, the source added.

Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar are some Bollywood stars who take between 70% - 80% share of the profits from their films and charge a comparatively lower fee for their work.

What is interesting is that, while others stars seek aRs 100 crore collection for their films, the Mersal man wants it all for himself, in his own bank account. Should this producer pay the figure asked, Vijay will not just become the highest paid actor, he will be the country's first Rs 100 crore hero!
