Many films, including Sketch, Thaana Serndha Koottam, Gulebhagavali, Kalakalappu 2, Madura Veeran, Mannar Vagera and Oru Nalla Naal Paathu Solren, were lined up for release for the festive Pongal season, but only three of them are finally confirmed to hit the cinema halls on the long holiday weekend of Sankranthi. Sketch, Thaana Serndha Koottam and Gulaebhagavali being those will be competing at the box office while most other films planning to release during Pongau dropped out of the race owing to non-availability of good theatres.
Thaana Serndha Koottam has Suriya and Keerthi Suresh in the lead and Vignesh Shivan's next directorial venture. Anirudh's music is already a hit. Gnanavelraja produces the film.
Gulaebhagavali, an action comedy written and directed by Kalyaan and produced by KJR Studios will see Prabhu Deva and Hansika Motwani coming together as a pair for the first time. Vivek-Mervin are the music composers.
Sketch is an action thriller directed by Vijay Chandar, starring Tamanna Bhatia and Vikram in the lead roles. Other language movies including the Balakrishna-Nayanthara starrer Jai Simha and Pawan Kalyan's Agnyaathavaasi are also releasing during Sankranthi.
