I am happy as a comedian: Soori

On his lean look, he shares, I realised that even a comedian should maintain a fit body. I started working out after director Ponram advised me.

Comedian Soori is riding high in Kollywood and commands an equal footage as that of a hero in a film. Having completed 86 films in a career spanning 20 years, there’s a big struggle and perseverance behind this success, the actor tells DC.
He begins, “I came to Chennai in 1996 to join tinsel town. I assisted art directors since I was good at painting. When there was no work in cinema, I would work at one of the textile showrooms in T.Nagar. I always keep people around me happy with my witty one-liners. Everyone used to praise me for my comic sense, which I inherited from my dad who passed away recently.”

Though he did a small role in Lingusamy’s Ji alongside Ajith, it was Kadhal that got him the recognition. “Through Suseenthiran’s Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu I got the moniker ‘Parotta’ Soori,” he quips. When asked if he desires to become a hero, he reveals, “I don’t think about it, and I am happy as a comedian and want to improve myself and work as one,” he adds.

So, ask him with which heroine he would like to dance a duet song? “I want to do a romance number with many, including Nayanthara. But would they be willing to?” he grins.

On his lean look, he shares, “I realised that even a comedian should maintain a fit body. I started working out after director Ponram advised me.”
