Stars line up for the tow causes

K'town show solidarity for Cauvery and against sterlite.

The Biggies of K’town, including actor-turned-politicians Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, Vijay, Chiyaan Vikram, Suriya, Vijay Sethupathi, Dhanush and Sivakarthikeyan, descended on the stage for public protests on Sunday. They trooped there for a silent stir organised by the actors’ association.

The Nadigar Sangam came out in support of two burning issues being faced by Tamil Nadu now —1. The constitution of a Cauvery Management Board and 2.To shut down the controversial Sterlite copper smelting plant in Thoothukudi. Permission was granted to the association to meet or demonstrate only for four hours between 9 am and 1 pm Sunday.

The functionaries of the association — president Nasser, secretary Vishal, treasurer Karthi and officials Ponvannan and Pasupathi — made proper arrangements to ensure a peaceful event was held and solidarity expressed and the best use made of the time available.

Actor Vijay was an early bird. But given his propensity to project public causes, as he did so controversially in his last movie Mersal, his presence may not have come as a huge surprise. A film person whose presence was unexpected was that of ‘Isai Gnani’ Ilayaraja. Members of TFPC, FEFSI and the Distributors Association were also there at full strength in support of the SIAA. A few farmers were also spotted on the occasion.

Among the galaxy of film people taking up the two burning public causes were — Selvamani, Rohini, SAC, Thaanu, Prabhu, Vivekh, Prashanth, Jai, Shankar, Senthil, Mansoor Ali Khan, SJ Suyah, Natraj, Kutty Padmini, Ambika, Dhanshika, RV Udhaykumar, PC Sreeram, Prem, Munnah, Rekha, Lingusami, Kasturi, Varalaxmi and Siddharth.

Those missing somewhat conspicuously were — Ajith, Nayanthara, Trisha, Vadivelu, Santhanam, Simbu, Arya, Udhayanidhi, Karunas, Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj and Bharath.

Sathyaraj is ‘Pachchai Tamizhan’
When the event was coming to an end, a group of persons raised their voice demanding that their ‘Thalaivan’ Sathyaraj, who they addressed as ‘Pachchai Tamizhan’, to speak from the mike. Since it was meant to be a silent protest, no one had wished to speak. The the Nadigar Sangam members tried to pacify the crowd, but in vain. A bit of confusion prevailed. Finally, Sathyaraj spoke a few words supporting the cause and assuaged the feelings of those who were demanding that words indeed be said at the protest.

Mama and Maapillai in animated conversation
When Sivakarthikeyan, who was next to Rajini, left his seat, the Superstar called his son-in-law Dhanush to come and sit next to him. Dhanush addressed him as ‘Mama’ and the two had an animated conversation.
