I’m a risk-taker, says Titanic producer

CV Kumar gets emotional at audio launch.

New-age producer/director CV Kumar is known for backing unusual scripts with solid content. He has introduced many young talents to the film industry, like Karthik Subbaraj, Pa Ranjith, NalanKumarasamy, Vijay Sethupathi, and Ashok Selvan. At the audio launch of his upcoming production Titanic, which has Anandhi and Kalaiyarasan in the lead, Kumar broke down, recalling his heavy losses from recent productions, but explained why he still continues to make films.

Kumar said, “Titanic with the tagline Kadhalum Kavundhu Pogum is a rom-com and has a unusual screenplay. He said it reminded him of the yesteryear Pandiyarajan-directed blockbuster comedy film Aan Paavam, and added that he was confident of its success. Titanic has been directed by Janakiraman.

The Gangs of Madras director added, “I liked taking risks right from a young age. I feel people who play safe in life will never progress. Risk has two scenarios, either you will hit the jackpot or lose everything. My father taught me these values, and he is no more.”

After controlling his emotions, he continued, “He gave me so much courage in life. Maayavan was a huge loss and I lost everything. It was my father’s words which helped me come out of the crisis. It’s my passion for good cinema that makes me produce films despite hits and lows.”

For the first time, Anandhi, known for her serious roles, has tried out a kutth unumber in Titanic, composed by Nivas Prasanna.
