Rohin Venkatesh: Taking inspiration from MasterChef

He says that his protagonist Kalaiyarasan's blind chef character has been inspired by Christine Ha.

Rohin Venkatesh, a former assistant of ace Vishnuvardhan, who debuts with a romantic thriller Adhey Kangal tells DC that his protagonist Kalaiyarasan’s blind chef character has been inspired by Christine Ha, the first ever blind lady contestant and season 3 winner of the competitive amateur cooking television show, MasterChef US. “While penning the script, I wanted to work on a new character for my lead; when I chanced upon one of the episodes of the MasterChef series, I was impressed with the American visually impaired chef Ms. Ha. I took her as an inspiration and designed Kalai’s character. In the film, he smells and feels textures and excels in his job even as he owns a restaurant. In the later half, he gets his vision back.”

While Sshivada Nair essays a salesgirl in a textile showroom, Janani Iyer plays a journalist. Produced by CV Kumar, the music in the film is by Ghibran. Showering praises on Ghibran, the director says, “Despite coming from Kamal sir’s school, Ghibran was down-to-earth. I narrated the full script to him and he was happy with it and came on board. We had a good experience working with him.”

Vishnuvardhan is known for his stylish way of presenting things. How about Rohin? “The film has an urban setting and I have packaged whatever was required for the story. That way I have followed Vishnu sir’s production design and meticulous planning (smiles). The movie has been shot in 35 days and the screenplay is the highlight of the film,” concludes Rohin.
