Ace actor-cum-politician Karthik who has been picky about his scripts in his comeback mode is excited about his upcoming much hyped Mr. Chandramouli, where he joins hands with his son and young sensation Gautham Karthik. The best part is that they will be seen as reel life father-son as well in the film directed by Thiru and produced by Dhananjeyan. Karthik in a freewheeling chat with DC tells us how significant the film is to him and having been in politics for long he comes out with his views on Rajini and Kamal entering the political arena.
How do you feel teaming up with your son?
It rekindles all my memories with my legendary Appa Muthraman. Dad made me an actor when I was in college. Within four months of my debut film Alaigal Oivadhillai, he passed away. I missed out on an opportunity to act alongside him. Similarly, Gautham entered films with Mani Ratnam’s film while he was still studying. In fact, I was writing a script, which demanded both of us to perform. Meanwhile, the Mr. Chandramouli offer came. I was literally floored by Thiru’s narration and I was absolutely gratified in accepting it. The film has come out so well and I am confident of its success.
You are known for romantic scenes. How was it to see Gautham in the sensuous romantic beach song with Regina Cassandra?
Laughs. I was not present on the sets during canning of romantic scenes or songs. I am also not jealous (smiles). I have seen all these in Agni Natchathiram itself.
Contrary to your image that you always turn up late for the shoots, Thiru said you were very punctual. Comment
There’s no truth in it. I do agree that it has happened a few times due to certain reasons. But people who made allegations against me conveniently hide their mistakes. If that were the case, I would not have completed 150 films in my career as a hero. I don’t speak ill of anybody.
You are one actor who made you presence in politics even when you are still active in films. How do you see Rajini and Kamal’s entry into political arena now?
Anyone can come to politics. But my experiences have taught me that one cannot ride two horses at the same time. Once you are in politics, be a full time politician. Efforts are being made to get into full time politics. Let’s see.
Gautham was criticised for acting in crass adult content comedies like Hara Hara Maha Devaki and Iruttu Arayil Murattu Kutthu. How do you look at it?
He will not be part of any such movies in the future.
You and Kushbhu have acted in many films together and are good friends. Share few words about her political stint
It was an amazing thing. Her experiences, hardships and her journey have made her a strong woman. She is bold in her views and handles every situation efficiently. Likewise, lot of women should come forward to politics.
