Kollywood assistant director held for cheating

Chennai: Police on Saturday arrested a 40-year-old man, an assistant director in the Tamil film industry (Kollywood) for cheating a woman of 72 sovereign gold jewellery. The accused, M. Alimsha of Alapakkam, had promised Vijayalakshmi (27) of Valasaravakkam that her marital life is affected by bad omen and he knows a godmen who can ward off the omen.

Believing him, the woman gave him 72 sovereigns of her gold jewellery in 2015 to conduct a special prayer. However, the man never returned the jewellery and kept on dodging the woman every time she questioned him following which she approached the Valasaravakkam police station.

 

Police team secured the man and after investigations confirmed that he had cheated the woman, whom he had met through an acquaintance. Police recovered 27 sovereigns gold jewels from him. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
