Blade Runner 2049 more bleak than original, says Ryan Gosling

A sequel to the Ridley Scott dystopian cult, the film has Ryan starring alongside Harrison Ford.

Mumbai: Actor Ryan Gosling, who plays the lead in the sequel to 'Blade Runner,' says the new film will be more bleak than the Ridley Scott-directed original.

Scott presented a chaotic dystopian world in his groundbreaking sci-fi movie ‘Blade Runner’ and the sequel ‘2049,’ coming after a gap of 35-years, is a continuation of the same story.

Gosling teased the story at CinemaCon, reported Entertainment Weekly

"It's a continuation of the story, so if you're a fan of the original film, it takes the original story and sort of follows that through," he said.

"It's the same iconic universe, but it's changed over the course of the 30-year gap. It's a lot more bleak in some ways.

The director (Denis Villeneuve) describes it as toxic. But it's still the Blade Runner universe," he added.

Gosling also praised co-star Harrison Ford, who is reprising one of his signature roles as the world-weary cop Rick Deckard.

"He came in and rolled up his sleeves and he just got to work. He was such a great partner to all of us, and such a great actor and a great guy."
