John Lennon's killer Mark Chapman refused parole

Lennon's wife, Yoko Ono, 85, opposed his freedom saying she feared for her and Lennon's two sons, Julian and Sean's, lives.

John Lennon’s killer Mark Chapman will remain behind bars, as he was refused parole. Mark Chapman gunned down the Beatle member outside his Manhattan apartment in 1980. Chapman remains behind bars after he was refused parole for the 10th time. The denial decision release stated, “It would be incompatible with the welfare and safety of society and would so deprecate the serious nature of the crime.” Lennon’s wife, Yoko Ono, 85, opposed his freedom saying she feared for her and Lennon’s two sons, Julian and Sean’s, lives. She was also concerned Chapman would be at risk from Lennon fans seeking revenge. Chapman fired five shots outside the Dakota apartment house on December 8, 1980, hitting Lennon four times in front of his wife, Yoko.
