Of monsters outside and within

The series based on Stephen King’s novel The Mist is scary in more ways than one.

If you’re looking to watch anything that is supernatural, full of suspense and sci-fi with a sprinkle of fantasy, then it’s likely you will turn to something from the imagination of renowned author Stephen King. His style of writing is sure to make you hair stand on end. Inspired by his horror novel of the same name, Netflix’s The Mist should definitely be on your must-see list if you like all things gory, supernatural and featuring monsters!

Set in Bridgeville, Maine, the series revolves around the people of the city and how they deal with a mysterious mist that descends on their city. The entire series is about these people trying to avoid the unseen monster lurking in the mist and trying to attack their families. First impressions show the town to be peaceful but it’s only after peeling back the layers, that the real problems among the residents creep up. The storyline focuses on few main protagonists like the Copeland family, who have just gone through a trauma, as well as Adrian Graff, Natalie Raven. Mia Lambert, Bryan Hunt and the father-son duo of Jay and Connor Heisel. Each character develops as the show progresses.

As the mist descends, the screen shifts from place to place where people are stranded, from the mall, the hospital, the precinct and the church. Apart from the mist leaving a trail of bodies, the residents also have to cope with the fact that they are stranded with a limited supply of food and water. And when the supply runs low, that’s when the actual problems start. It turns out that each person has a back story with a secret that they would like to keep hidden. While this battle against the creature from the dark forms the backdrop, the show also brings to light things like rape, murder, abuse and corruption in the city.

Though the show is not entirely gory, there are some gruesome scenes when the residents come face to face with victims of the mist. As the description suggests, the series isn’t exactly pure horror, but more in the genre of fantasy and the supernatural. There are some episodes that tend to drag a bit and the suspense is a long time coming. And after the open-ended season finale we’re not sure whether there will be a Season 2 or if the series will be dropped. But for what it is worth, The Mist is certainly worth a watch if you like the genre that guarantees you goose-bumps.
