To get into character as his vision impaired villain in Blade Runner 2049, Jared Leto blinded himself. It was reported on Entertainment Tonight that the Oscar-winning actor stars as Niander Wallace, a manipulative manufacturer of androids who are nearly identical to humans.
According to an interview with WSJ. Magazine, Leto wore a specially designed contact lenses that made his eyes look opaque while prohibiting visibility. The actor had to be guided by others on the sets.
“We all heard stories about Jared, how he transforms into the characters. But even this didn’t prepare me for what was to come,” said director Denis Villeneuve.
