Upcoming web-series starring Vivek Oberoi to dabble with IPL betting

Karan Anshuman returns to direction after helming last year's Bangistan.

Mumbai: Critic turned director Karan Anshuman’s feature film debut, 'Bangistan' (2015), was panned by the critics and the box office alike, but the man’s back with a vengeance.

Rumour had been doing the rounds, last year that Karan was conceptualising a web series, which was then christened 'Khel', but nothing had been officially affirmed. A year down the line, the project is all set to commence towards the end of August, with Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment onboard as the official production house.

The web-series will be headlined by Vivek Oberoi, Richa Chadda, Gulshan Devaiah and Angad Bedi. Big Bollywood names being associated with the project coupled with web-series being the toast of the town with an exponential increase in the success of internet film content has resulted in the excitement surrounding the project spiking, considerably.

Reportedly, the character played by Vivek has the proverbial rags to riches theme to it, with him playing a guy from an impoverished background, who earns big money and ends up owning a cricket team after entering the betting racket. Richa’s character is that of a sports journalist who falls in love with a cricketer. Angad plays a cricketer and his role is apparently modelled on Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Gulshan plays another cricketer with antagonistic shades.

Vivek's spokesperson has confirmed the actor’s involvement in the project. The series will be shot in Mumbai over a month-long schedule.

While cricket is the primary backdrop, the story deals with relationships and their immediate implications on the game. Inspired by real life individuals and incidents, this one explores the sensational drama veiled behind the IPL.

Now, this is one web-series worth anticipating. What do you think?
