Kriti Sanon explores Lucknow culture

The actress is having the time of her life shooting in Lucknow and exploring the city.

This Diwali, Kriti Sanon won’t be home in Delhi with her family. She has been shooting in Lucknow since the past weeks, for Ashwini Iyer Tiwari’s Bareilly Ki Barfi. “We’re going to shoot in Bareilly as well,” assures Kriti.

“The title does have significance to my character, and that’s all I can say right now. What I can share with you is that we’re gorging here in Lucknow on jalebis and kebabs,” she says when asked if she is playing the title role.

For once, Kriti doesn’t have to worry about her weight. “The film requires me to look a certain way. So, I am being encouraged to stuff myself with usually forbidden food. It can’t get any better for me,” she says.

And it’s not just the food. The actress is having the time of her life shooting in Lucknow and exploring the city. “I’ve never been to Lucknow before. We’re shooting in the heart of the city — in the mohallas, gullis and bylanes. It’s all a new experience for me, and I love it,” she says, adding that though this is not her first time playing a small-town girl, the role is different from her Heropanti character.

“My character in that movie was educated in a cosmopolitan environment, so she was not a small-town girl in her outlook,” she informs.

Kriti also met a lot of locals in UP to study their accents and mannerisms as part of her research. “I’ve kept the accent to a minimum. You’ll find the older generation speaking Hindi with a particular accent. The younger generation, not so much,” she says.

This is Kriti’s first time working with a female director. “I see no difference in the working style of Ashwini and my other directors,” adds the actress.
