Exclusive: Did you know Aditya walked out of Sanam Re to do Fitoor?

After the opening weekend, the film he left has emerged a winner.

Mumbai: 'Sanam Re' has emerged as the winner at the box office by beating 'Fitoor'. Both the films clashed on the same day, which were backed by two powerful studios. While UTV okayed an enormous budget for Fitoor (close to 80 cr), T-series budget for 'Sanam Re' worked in their favour (close to 25 cr) for recovering their investment. It is reported that UTV faced heavy losses with Fitoor failing to get big numbers over the weekend.

Moving away from the numbers, here’s what you’ll didn’t know. Initially, it was Aditya Roy Kapur who was roped in for Divya Khoshla Kumar’s 'Sanam Re'. Yes, Aditya had agreed to do the film and everything was set. However, when Abhishek Kapoor pitched 'Fitoor' to UTV, it is believed that Sidharth Roy Kapur (head honcho of Disney India) suggested to take his brother Aditya in the film. Reportedly, Aditya was paid a whopping 4 cr, an amount which is way above his market price.

Despite being committed to 'Sanam Re', Aditya backed out of it at the 11th hour to be a part of ‘Fitoor’. This obviously didn’t go down well with T Series owner Bhushan Kumar who decided to get even at the box office.

Both the films were trying to cash in on Valentine Day weekend with aggressive promotions. However, 'Fitoor' failed to get any momentum from the day of its release.

What Aditya thought at that time that it is an intelligent decision to choose 'Fitoor' over 'Sanam Re' has worked against him. The film he left managed to out beat him at the box office.

It will be interesting to see if Bhushan ever decides to work with Aditya again.
