Absolutely gratifying to be a director: Kangana Ranaut

At the wrap-up party for Manikarnika: Queen Of Jhansi, the actress spoke about overcoming various hurdles in the making of the film.

The shoot and the reshoot of Manikarnika: Queen Of Jhansi finally wrapped up this week, and the makers decided party with the cast and crew. The star of the evening was none other than leading lady Kangana Ranaut, who made it a point to join in the festivities despite being sick.

Until recently, it seemed unlikely that the film would be completed in time to make its January release date. With portions of the film having to be reshot in the absence of director Krish, everyone expected a postponement, but the team seems to have powered through its hurdles with the actress taking over the reins.

“Every film has its journey. It’s true that we had some difficulties, but the team is very strong and we have completed the film. So, we want to celebrate,” Kangana said, adding, “It was an accident that I ended up having to direct the film. Initially, I was taken aback. But I enjoyed the process of filmmaking.”

The actress found herself in the midst of multiple controversies during the making of the film the most significant being actor Sonu Sood’s decision to walk out after allegedly being bullied by her on set.

“When you are the director of a film, you need to you need to work on a lot of things, like the availability of actors’ dates. We had to send chartered planes to get some actors to the sets. But it was absolutely gratifying to be a director,” Kangana said.

Now, with the project well on its way to completion, the actress expects it to be the only Republic Day release in 2019. Despite the fact that Super 30 and Cheat India are also slated for release on the same day, she thinks they’re likely to drop out.

“I don’t think any other films are coming out on that day. But it is a big holiday, and the subject is relevant for release on either Republic Day or Independence Day. So we have chosen January 25th,” she said.
