V Jayaprakash among Super-16 Heroes' honoured by Akshay, take home Rs 5 lakh

One of the 16 innovators from across country to bag Akshay Kumar's Rs 5 lakh.

KOZHIKODE: Koyilandy native V. Jayaprakash is among the 16 innovators from across the country who had won Rs 5 lakh reward from actor Akshay Kumar.
Akshay Kumar handed over the mount to all the innovators at the ‘Super-16-Heros’ programme jointly organised by National Innovation Foundation and Bollywood film fraternity in Mumbai last week.

Mr Jayaprakash is known for his fuel-efficient innovative smokeless stove and community chulhas used widely in Kerala including for the mid-day meal scheme in Kozhikode and Idukki districts under the UNDP programme jointly implemented by Centre for Energy and Environment. Besides, he has given training to Indian Army and major institutions like IIT New Delhi on energy saving methods. “Akshay Kumar has promised to take all the innovations to a maximum number of people. He ensured financial help in the development stages,” said Mr Jayaprakash.

The actor got involved as a part of the release of his film, PadMan which is based on the inspiring life of Coimbatore native Arunachalam Muruganandam, who invented the low-cost sanitary pad-making machine. Mr Jayaprakash’s JP tech, which makes them, has become the knowledge partner of Center for Environment Education (CEE), supported by the Union ministry of environment, forest and climate change. His stove and chulhas have been saving lakhs of trees and arresting the emission of greenhouse gases. He had manufactured some 8,000 stoves till now.
