When the Balakot airstrike took place, there were many filmmakers who immediately went on to register film titles on the subject. A lot of filmmakers also jumped deep into research on the project. And now their efforts will bear fruit as the trio of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Mahaveer Jain and Bhushan Kumar have come together to sign on Abhishek Kapoor to direct the film on the subject.
“It is going to be a massive project as it celebrates an Indian victory of sorts against terrorism. Since it has the Indo-Pak angle as well like Uri, there is bound to be a lot of buzz about the project. The makers are looking at an interesting casting for the film, but all eyes will be on who will play the role of the man with the moustache — Abhinandan Varthaman,” says an industry source.
Earlier titles such as Pulwama, Surgical Strike 2, Balakot, Abhinandan, Pulwama: The Surgical Strike, and ATS — One Man Show were applied by various film producers for registration with the Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA) and are awaiting clearance.
